Foreign Fields - Fake Arms

This blog’s name is Young Good Music and within that name falls the duty of bringing to light new and upcoming music. However, sometimes it is necessary to share music that is slightly older purely because of the lack of appreciation it has been given.

In the past I often found soft acoustic music quite dull, however since picking up guitar I have started appreciating what’s going on within the song and how truly talented certain artists are. With that in mind I present to you Foreign Fields – Fake Arms.

Now, with them being such an unknown band (I feel so hipster) there isn’t a great deal about them online, however what I can tell you is this; Foreign Fields are an electronic folk group, home-grown from Wisconsin.

On New Year’s Day 2011, Eric Hillman and Brian Holl met in an abandoned office in their hometown to begin to work on their first full length LP “Anywhere But Where I Am”. The album was released in December 2011.

Often compared to the well-known Bon Iver they certainly have a lot to live up to, and in short they deliver.

The duo brings beautiful harmonies as well as a slight palm-muted guitar on this track, that go down so smooth on the ears. It’s a really simple song, but that certainly isn’t a bad thing. It’s pure and if you take a look at the album cover you can see it is meant to be enjoyed alongside the small things in life. Take joy in the simple things in life and have this as your soundtrack to those moments.

Arctic Monkeys - Stop The World I Wanna Get Off With You

I don't even need to tell you about how good Arctic Monkeys are, or when their new album is out.

This is the B-side to Why'd you only call me when you're high, and thus wont appear on the new album.

Sir Sly - Miracle

Sir Sly are a Los Angeles based band in California. The band is formed of Landon Jacobs, Jason Suwito and Hayden Coplen. Their genre is a bit of a mix between indie rock and electro pop, in my humble opinion it works wonderfully.
The track Miracle starts out quite simple, catching your attention with a simple beat and vocals full of reverb by lead singer Landon Jacobs. Forty seconds into the song it feels like it might drop, it doesn't it entices you in even more hoping for that inevitable drop. When it does come round the chorus is in full swing and really does sound fantastic, after just a few listens it’s already in my head. The instrumental, just after the chorus reminds me somewhat of Radiohead (are they set for a similar future?). 

I JUST WANT WHAT I CANT HAVE AND I CANT HAVE A MIRACLE!

Their tracks are recorded and mixed by themselves at their home studio. They really do have some fantastic tracks; the vocals remind me slightly of those in Foster the People/Portugal. The Man, however they are completely stand alone when it comes to their music. Their sound is a lot more relaxed but still up beat enough to keep you interested. I urge you to go out and listen to more than just ‘Miracle’ the track I’ve shared above. If you haven’t been able to tell by now, I’m excited by this band with just over 1000 hits on this track on YouTube it deserves far more.

London Grammar - Interlude

London Grammar is an ‘art rock’ three piece who first came together at Nottingham university. Hannah Reid (vocalist) and Dan Rothman (guitarist) first began writing music together during their first year, and were soon to be joined by Dot Major (keyboard, drums).

The first thing that you are going to notice about London Grammar is Hannah Reid’s potent and beautiful vocals. Everyone all over the internet is comparing her to Florence Welch, and yes she does sound similar but she isn't just a simple rip off or copy. Reid’s vocals are powerful and stunning to listen to.

Another note is their simple sound, yet it’s so capturing and wonderful to listen. Their chilled vibes and simple melodies truly hypnotise the listener. They self-released their 2013 debut EP ‘Metal & Dust’ which reached the top 5 of the iTunes chart in Australia.

The album ‘If You Wait’ comes out September 9^th and is sure to be highly anticipated.

The Last Bison - Midnight City (M83 Cover)

The Last Bison are an indie folk band from Virginia. Personally I am not the biggest fan of indie folk music however the bands arrangement of this song is fantastic. You even have one of the members playing the xylophone with a violin’s bow and it really does sound fantastic. They capture the song perfectly as well as adding their own spin on it.
This song is not particularly new, however in my opinion needs more views than it currently holds. Their debut album came out in March of this year and if you like this genre, be sure to check them out. 

together PANGEA - Snakedog

This incredible hard hitting punk track is brought to you from together PANGEA (see what they did there?). The outfit are a four piece band from sunny LA and have spent time touring with the likes of FIDLAR, King Kahn, the Shrines and many more.

There is something about the punk/surfer/rock genre at the moment that really seems to be blowing up. If you like bands such as FIDLAR and Drenge, then these are well worth a listen.
The track starts as most of this genre does; with a clean bit of guitar then in come the heavy hitting drums that really make you shake your head violently. Performing together since 2008 at house parties, the perfectly suited rough vocals of William Keegan along with the rest of the band work extremely well.

Sampha - Without

This track comes from Sampha's debut EP, Dual. The South-London artist has collaborated with many great acts in the past, including SBTRKT and Jessie Ware. However, it's nice to finally see Sampha showing that he can produce, write and sing his own songs. This track is probably my favourite from the short EP. It features a simple beat that almost feels day dream like and will no doubt appear soon enough in some teen drama show. Sampha's fantastic vocals are normally what brings people to his music and I'm sure that will be the case here as well, but it’s good to see that he can produce some genuinely good beats to come alongside that.

Florence And The Machine - Sweet Nothing (Acoustic)

Sweet Nothing is one of my favorite tracks from Calvin Harris' latest album '18 months', it features the beautiful vocals of none other than Florence Welch.
Since then it has become part of her set when live, obviously not the electrified Calvin Harris version, but a soft simple and elegant acoustic version.
For most of the song it is a simple bass line with her vocals over the top, however some harp is introduced towards the end of the song to 'Florence it up'.

Nothing new, just nice.

Hudson Taylor - Care

So i'm seeing Kodaline in Bristol in November, and I decided to have a look and see if the support act had been announced. The fact that you're reading this tells you, that yes it has been.
Alfie and Harry Hudson Taylor are a 19&20 year old brothers from Dublin and right off the bat you can see why they have been chosen to support Kodaline.
The pair, are a fantastic acoustic folk act with constant ear-kissing harmonies (no-homo). They released their debut EP Battles in August last year that reached No. 14 in the itunes Ireland chart. Their website describes them as "raw, folk-infused melodic pop", check out their song Care above and give them some love.

Acollective - Stolen goods

Acollective are "one of Israel's leading international bands, a 7 piece machine of rioting madness and drunken joy". This would be the perfect way to describe them.
They were the first band that I saw when at Glastonbury and the guidebook described them as "indie rock" so I thought; why not?
Acollective are more than indie rock, their sound is so vibrant that it makes everyone in the crowd want to dance. They're all also incredibly talented as at numerous points they would switch instruments.
This is is one of my favorite songs of theirs and at 2:38 it picks up. Most of the band's songs are so jig-worthy and dance like that everyone at their performances cannot help but join.
They currently have no label or sponsorship but are doing incredibly well for themselves. With three albums under their belt, this international band are definitely worth your time - they are incredible live and will surprise you.

Portugal. The Man

Portugal. The Man are a band from America, they have the sound of MGMT and Foster the people, especially the lead singers vocals. The band active since 2005 have a mind boggling 8 albums under their belt, sometimes I wonder how bands manage to write this amount of material in such a short amount of time - clearly without any breaks and a lot of motivation.

I cannot vouch for any of their older stuff however the track that enticed from comes from their new album (2013) titled Evil Friends, Modern Jesus.
With acoustic guitar and synth overlaying most of the song and a memorable hook its definitely worth your foot tapping time.
